Following the recent string of devastating fires in the community, many needs became evident, including the need to strengthen coordination. It also highlighted the efforts of many individuals, including members of the United Baja California Society (USBC), who stepped in to help the victims.

With more than four decades of work in support of the Rosarito community, USBC members have remained attentive to the needs of those affected, as well as the needs of firefighters and impacted animals, stated Diego Knight, president of the organization.

During their monthly meeting, they welcomed a cordial visit from Councilwoman Yoselin Piña Meléndrez, who listened to their concerns, requests, and proposals. She presented an initiative to connect USBC members with the city’s 10 community centers.

“They didn’t know they had a councilwoman dedicated to assisting foreign residents, and they were very pleased. Now, the next step is to start working together,” the councilwoman remarked.

Alongside Paula Dueñas, the current coordinator of the Office for Foreign Residents’ Assistance (FRAO, by its Spanish acronym), efforts are being made to strengthen various areas where both parties already collaborate. This includes continuing vaccination, sterilization, and pet care campaigns.

Councilwoman Yoselin Piña emphasized the importance of reinforcing the workshops and activities already carried out by the Municipal DIF (Integral Family Development System) through the 10 community centers for the benefit of children.

“These centers are, in a way, the community heart of Rosarito, and we want to strengthen them so they function as recreational hubs where children can attend various workshops,” she explained.

As head of the Sports Commission, she also highlighted to foreign residents that Rosarito has a network of sports fields that still require significant efforts to better support local youth.
