To honor the memory of businessman and former mayor Don Hugo Eduardo Torres Chabert, a memorial mass was held on the first anniversary of his passing at the seaside chapel in the gardens of Hotel Rosarito. The ceremony brought together current and retired hotel staff from various departments, along with friends and family members.
The service was officiated by Father Francisco Landa, who invited attendees to follow the good example set by those who have passed, emphasizing the Gospel message shared during the Mass — the commandment to love one’s neighbor as oneself.
He reminded the congregation that true change in the world begins with small acts of kindness and compassion: “It is through these simple, everyday gestures that we can bring about a greater transformation within our community,” he said.
Father Landa also spoke about the importance of family as the foundation of society, encouraging those present to cherish the legacy and positive impact left by their loved ones:
“It is good to appreciate the seeds planted by those who came before us. May those good seeds bear fruit, and may new generations continue to share and replicate those positive actions.”
He concluded by reminding everyone that the spirit never dies and that one day, in another spiritual realm, we will reunite with those who have departed:
“Our loved ones who have passed remain alive before God — their spirit continues among us.”
At the end of the service, Gustavo Torres Ramírez expressed gratitude to the hotel staff, friends, and family who gathered to remember his father and honor the enduring legacy of Rosarito’s former mayor.
