After six years, Rosarito once again welcomed the participation of the National Defense Secretariat and the Mexican Army during its Independence Day Civic Parade.
A contingent of federal police opened the march, followed by members of the Citizen Security Secretariat, and then by municipal firefighters and lifeguards.
Students from both public and private schools joined the parade, some in school uniforms, others dressed as historical figures of the independence movement, and many wearing traditional Mexican attire. However, parents walking alongside their children overshadowed the students’ participation—a reflection of families’ reluctance to let their children march alone.
For the first time, dump trucks and trailers also joined the parade. Unfortunately, many blasted horns and released heavy smoke, particularly the dump trucks, causing noise and air pollution that affected participants—including children with autism, senior citizens from community clubs, and even pets from the animal welfare group Huellitas Rosarito.
After a decade-long absence, dogs and their owners returned to the parade, carrying signs promoting adoption and respect for animals. Cristina Torres, president of Huellitas Rosarito A.C., said the group’s participation aimed to raise awareness about animal welfare, sterilization, and adoption.
“We wanted families to share the same dedication they give to their pets—whether decorating a stroller, finding a costume, or making posters to spread the message,” Torres said.
Citizen sports groups from the Municipal Sports Institute also participated, showcasing activities such as catchball, aqua aerobics, and volleyball. The institute’s director, Francisco Carrasco, was the only public official to walk the route alongside residents—setting an example for others, organizers noted.
The parade also featured boxers from the Paco Cuesta Club, who performed sparring demonstrations throughout the event under the guidance of their award-winning trainer Francisco Cuesta. Cowboys, vintage car clubs, and nursing schools rounded out the colorful celebration.
