Following the inauguration of the Tianguis Turístico at Hotel Rosarito, the city’s hospitality sector has experienced significant growth in the quality of its services.

Hotel Rosarito, among other local establishments, took a major step forward in its quality standards as part of the preparations for Mexico’s most important tourism promotion event.

The hotel had already been working on a restoration project that incorporated cultural and historical elements, and it implemented new measures to adapt to the tourism segment drawn by the first Tianguis Turístico held at the Baja Center in Rosarito.

Like other hotels in the area, Hotel Rosarito adjusted its services to meet the demands of the meetings and conventions market—not just weekend travelers.

“The commitment of Rosarito’s hotels will always be to improve the quality of their services and amenities in order to compete with other destinations and secure a place in the country’s tourism offering. In that sense, I think the Tianguis Turístico pushed hotels—at full speed, if you will—to be ready to welcome a different type of guest, not just weekend visitors or families on vacation,” said Elisa Calvillo, the hotel’s marketing director.

“Historically, we were used to guests arriving on Friday, staying two nights, and leaving. We weren’t used to hosting people arriving throughout the week who need fast internet for work or kitchen service at 6:30 a.m. because their activities outside the hotel begin at 8. I believe the Tianguis Turístico marked a turning point for Rosarito, giving us the ability to host guests coming for conferences and expos,” she added.

Following the success of the event, Hotel Rosarito consolidated its services with the highest quality standards, becoming a benchmark for Baja California’s tourism competitiveness. Since then, it has hosted new business events, congresses, forums, and exhibitions.

Calvillo noted that the efforts made by Rosarito hotels to improve service quality will strengthen the destination’s hospitality sector, enabling it to compete with other markets and ensure a more balanced economic impact from future tourism events.

She added that in addition to Hotel Rosarito’s efforts to attract specific segments such as spring breakers, it also promotes its offerings at conferences organized by COTUCO Rosarito and COTUCO Tijuana at the Baja California Center.

“There are joint efforts between the Baja Center and COTUCO Rosarito and COTUCO Tijuana to promote events, but hotels need to do their part to encourage visitors to stay here, so the economic benefits are distributed more fairly. Many events are managed through Tijuana, so most attendees stay there—even though the activities take place at the Baja Center in Rosarito.

The idea is for hotels to showcase their offerings during site inspections by organizers, so they can attract guests. It’s important for us to be included in the range of lodging options because many times that doesn’t happen, and we lose the opportunity to participate,” Calvillo explained.
