Rosarito’s youth basketball team Cochilokos claimed the championship title at the 2025 Zonkeys Cup in Tijuana, defeating the host team Tijuana Zonkeys with a decisive 54–34 victory in the boys’ 14–15 category.
The Rosarito squad showed dominance throughout the final match, sealing their place as champions of the annual tournament.
The Zonkeys Cup, organized by Club Deportivo Tijuana Zonkeys since 2014, began as a basketball-focused event and has more recently expanded to include soccer. The tournament fosters competition and development for children and teenagers in multiple age brackets, with the goal of strengthening youth sports both locally and nationally.
Over the years, the event has become a launching platform for young basketball talent with aspirations to play at the professional level, attracting teams from cities and regions across Mexico.
Just this past April, another Cochilokos team earned a spot at the national championships after winning a local title. Several rising stars from the program are now preparing to break into the major leagues, underscoring the team’s reputation as a springboard for young athletes pursuing basketball careers.
