Racquetball champion Rosy Torres was the guest speaker at the Madrugadores Group on Wednesday, Oct. 2, where she discussed the work of the Boys & Girls Club Rosarito, which she started 13 years ago with the support of sponsors and volunteers.

Since its establishment in 2011, the Club has provided services to more than 5,000 children, ages six to 16, through activities designed to promote family and social integration.

Activities include drawing, painting, ping-pong, dance, baseball, reading, swimming, first aid courses, summer programs, and various artistic and manual workshops.

The positive impact on the children’s academic, physical, and emotional development is evident, and parents have recognized these changes.

Children who participate in the Boys & Girls Club activities demonstrate improvements in behavior, becoming more empathetic, social, and disciplined, she said.

Additionally, their involvement strengthens family relationships, especially with their parents.

The Club hosts Christmas festivities in December, celebrates Children’s Day in April, and offers year-round music lessons with a variety of instruments.

Over time, the Club has become an effective tool for combatting addiction, school dropouts, and other social issues.

The membership fees are symbolic—100 pesos for monthly dues and 100 pesos for registration. The Club’s operations are sustained through financial or in-kind sponsorships from volunteers, enabling students to achieve national recognition in various artistic and athletic competitions.

The club’s monthly financial needs total 120,000 pesos, which cover payroll, insurance, maintenance, and taxes.
